The Rainforest Ecolodge is situated in the Sinharaja rainforest, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Biodiversity Hotspot as designated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The lodge is low-impact and has been created from recycled materials.
Guests stay in16 individual chalets which have been designed using 2 1/2 recycled shipping containers and are perched on stilts above the tea plantation. The interiors are decorated with recycled bamboo paneling while the floor and private deck resemble recycled railway sleepers. Each chalet consists of a bedroom, a washroom, a living area and a private deck overlooking the lush green scenery below.
There is a main lodge building which is home to a large lounge, reading room and a lovely restaurant serving local produce and wonderful Sri Lanka cuisine. The rooms all have tea and coffee facilities and a safe.
The main activities are focused on wildlife as you would expect so you can go trekking, birdwatching, easy going nature trails and even fish therapy.
