This mega-onsen, bordered by the natural shingle of the riverbed, allows over 1000 people to bathe at once!
Most of the guestrooms are in the traditional ryokan style, with tatami mat flooring, short-legged chabudai tables and zaisu chairs. Caramel-coloured woods and cream walls contrast against the sharp, monochrome lines on the floors and railings creating a modern minimalist look. Wide windows allow the clear mountain light to flood the space. The handful of Western-style suites also follow this simple style, splitting the long spaces with accent walls which partition off the sleeping and living areas for a cosy effect. All Western suites have a balcony too, complete with a private open-air bath, where you can soak to your heart's content.
A tempting selection of Japanese dishes can be served in your room, allowing you to enjoy your meals in private surroundings, and there is an onsite tearoom for when you fancy a coffee or a quick bite. Other than the mid-winter mega-onsen at the river, there are several shared baths within the hotel which you can use all year round, including those constructed from wood and metal, and some which are open to the elements. Put on the complementary yukata robes and make yourself at home.
